at risk of redundancy?
There are few more demoralising words to hear or deliver than: “sorry, but you are at risk of redundancy”. With unemployment now exceeding two million in the UK this is being heard daily, across the nation and across the world. We are gripped with fear, fear which created this whole mess in the first place … but hey, that's another soap box …
What are your options?
- You can collapse into the fear … “it's happening everywhere … that's just the way it is …” Just wait for the payout and find the address of your local job centre.
- You could see this as a wake-up call. Maybe you could have worked harder, smarter, faster. What could you do, right now, to improve your performance or that of the organization? What could you do to improve your visibility within the organization … to get yourself OFF that list?
- You could use this as an opportunity to take stock of your career …
Putting money issues aside, how upset are you, really? Has it made you realize how much you love your job and want another just like it? In which case what can you do to improve your chances of getting one? Or, is there a slight feeling of relief? What do you really want to do?
You might decide you want to be a mover and shaker in local government or a retail magnate. That may not happen overnight but it helps to know which wall you want to climb before you put your ladder up against it …
Ultimately, we can only control what is inside our skin. This does of course mean we CAN control our reactions to what life throws at us. It is your choice… Have this be a new beginning and if you want help:
- Getting past those self-limiting beliefs to become the person you know you are really
- deciding what WILL bring you fulfillment – so you find the right wall …
- to put together a plan
- to see the bigger picture,
- to see the risks and maybe take them anyway
- to take steps required to make the changes you want.
“Keep on doing what you do – there are many others like me out there, who have potential locked away and who do not have the self confidence to be themselves or to appreciate their own abilities.” TC, starting a better job, with better pay and prospects April 2009
